Deguchi looked sharp but failed to score in the final as Klimkait pulled off a late seoi-nage attack to secure the title in the Israeli city.

The bronze medals went to Israel's Timna Nelson Levy and Belgium's Mina Libeer.

France ended the day with two gold medals courtesy of victories for Luka Mkheidze and Blandine Pont.

The crowd were in favour of Tamar Malca as they got behind the home fighter but it was Pont who emerged victorious in the women's under-48kg gold-medal match.

Pont took just 30 seconds to get a wara-ari before pinning down Pont for an ippon a minute later.

Brazil’s Natasha Ferreira and Spain’s Mireia Lapuerta secured the bronze medals.

Olympic bronze medallist Mkheidze delivered another gold for France when he came out on top in the men’s under-60 final with victory over Francisco Garrigos of Spain.

The other podium spots were taken by Jorre Verstraeten of Belgium and Salih Yildiz of Turkey.

Vazha Margvelashvili of Georgia was pushed hard by Orkhan Safarov of Azerbaijan before sealing men’s under-66kg gold.

Safarov was the first to score with a combination of o-soto-gari and tani-otoshi in the final before Margvelashvili hit back to draw level.

After one minute and 15 seconds into extra time, Margvelashvili landed his second waza-ari from a superb yoko-tomoe-nage to seal the title.

Margvelashvili and Safarov were joined on the podium by Georgia’s Lasha Nadiradze and Spain’s Alberto Gaitero Martin.

The opening day also saw Britain’s Chelsie Giles become women’s under-52kg champion in Tel Aviv.

Giles forced Spain’s Ana Perez Box to tap out in the final after producing a great newaza.

The bronze medallists were Brazil's Larissa Pimenta and Italy’s Odette Giuffrida.
