The official poster for the Kraków-Małopolska 2023 European Games has been unveiled after choosing the winner of a design competition.

Tycjan Twardowski, a student at the Faculty of Industrial Forms at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, has been named as the competition winner.

Dominik Matys and Zuzanna Karczewska, who study at the same university, came second and third respectively.

Twardowski's colourful poster featuring many sports that are set to be contested at the European Games is due to become part of the promotional activities for Krakow-Malopolska 2023.

University students enrolled in arts institutions were called to participate in the poster design competition when it launched last month.

Krakow-Malopolska 2023 said it received works from all over the country with creators from universities including the Academy of Fine Arts as well as the Pedagogical University in Kraków, Collegium Da Vinci in Poznań, Gdansk University of Technology and University of Silesia.

"The jury had a tough nut to crack, but ultimately decided to award the top prize to Tycjan Twardowski of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków," a statement from Krakow-Malopolska 2023 read.

"He created an extremely complex, dynamic, full of movement poster, fully meeting the objectives of the competition and having the potential to become a showcase of the Games."

Almost 7,000 athletes from 48 nations are set to compete across 29 sports at the European Games, scheduled to be held from June 21 to July 2.

Kraków-Małopolska 2023 is the third edition of the European Games, following on from Baku in 2015 and Minsk in 2019.
