Tunisia is set to hold the first World Para Athletics Grand Prix of the season in its capital city, Tunis.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Grand Prix, which was first held in 2013, albeit the 2020 event not taking place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Competition is scheduled to start tomorrow, ending on Wednesday (February 8) at the Rades Athletics Stadium.

A total of 300 athletes from 25 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas are set to participate.

The best of the local athletes include men's T34 wheelchair racer Walid Ktila and women's F41 thrower Raoua Tlili, who both claimed two gold medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Outside of Tunisia, Malaysia's three Paralympic champions, Abdul Latif Romli, Mohamed Puzi and Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli, will all feature at the Grand Prix, while African neighbours Algeria are taking 30 athletes to the event, but none of their Paralympic champions.

Morocco has 12 athletes including Tokyo 2020 men's shot put F33 gold medallist Zakariae Derhem.

Kenya has 29 athletes on its team, including three-time Paralympic champion T11 runner Samwel Kimani, while Spain has Paralympic champion in the men's 5,000 metres T13, Yassine Ouhdadi El Ataby, on its squad.

Following Tunis, competition moves onto Dubai from February 26 to March 1.
