Bahraini athletes have dominated nominations for the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation's (IMMAF) Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Awards, with two featuring in the best senior male and female athlete of the year categories.

Both awards have five nominees.

Last year's male athlete of the year winner Ramazan Gitinov of Bahrain has been nominated again after extending his unbeaten streak which dates back to 2017, including a welterweight gold at the IMMAF Asian Championships in Tajikistan.

His compatriot Rasul Magomedov won heavyweight golds at the Asian and World Championships in 2022.

Kazakhstan's Bagdat Zhubanysh and Bekzat Zhassiy and New Zealand's Fergus Jenkins are the other nominees.

Zhubanysh became the first athlete to win three golds at the IMMAF World Championships with his triumph in the strawweight category in Abu Dhabi, while Zhassiy was victorious in the featherweight event.

Jenkins earned gold in the middleweight.

In the female athlete of the year award, last year's winner Sabrina de Sousa and Aieza Ramos Bertolso of Bahrain were both nominated.

De Sousa won a second World Championships gold medal in the featherweight event, while Bertolso won the strawweight tiles at the Asian and World Championships.

Magdalena Czaban of Poland was nominated after extending her unbeaten run dating back to 2020, while Nina Nikolija Milosevic - who switched allegiance from Sweden to Serbia - won bantamweight European and world titles.

Ireland's Nadine Abbott-Bissett is the other nominee after an atomweight gold at the World Championships.

Winners of both awards are set to be decided by representatives of the IMMAF Athletes' Commission and Board of Directors.

A ceremony is set to be held on February 15 in Belgrade at the IMMAF World Championships to reveal the winners.
