Playing in their first main round match at the Malmö Arena the double defending champions were up against Croatia, and shared the contest at 32-32.

It was Denmark’s first draw at a World Championship since 2015, with Igor Karacic levelling for Croatia with 36 seconds left on the clock.

Denmark had one last attack however Emil Jakobsen mishandled the ball when in a shooting position and the points were shared.

Simon Bogetoft Pytlick of Denmark was the nation’s top scorer in the match, with nine goals, while Marin Sipic was the most prolific Croatian player, also netting nine times.

Also in Group IV, Egypt overcame Belgium 33-28 at the same venue, with right back Mohsen Mahmoud top scoring for the Egyptians with seven goals.

The remaining game in the group saw Bahrain overcome the United States 32-27, with Husain Alsayyad scoring nine goals for Bahrain.

In Group III, played at the Spodek Arena in Katowice, Poland, Netherlands edged past Qatar 32-30, with Kay Smits top scoring for the Dutch with eight goals from nine attempts.

Qatar led 19-15 at the break, but the Netherlands fought back, with player of the match Smits’ eight goals seeing him to the top of the competition's overall goalscoring charts with 32.

Another close contest in the group saw Norway edge past Serbia 31-28.

Serbia held a three-point advantage at half-time, but a 17-minute spell in the second half, where Norway outscored their opponents 13-4, proved crucial in the outcome.

Germany ran out comfortable 39-19 victors over Argentina, extending their winning streak at this year’s event to four matches, and continuing to impress in attack, after scoring 102 goals in the preliminary round.

The goals were shared out in this 20-goal win, with Johannes Golla, Patrick Groetzki and Lukas Mertens all scoring five times from five shots.

Factoring in points carried over from the first group phase, Germany and Norway lead the way in Group III, both with six points, while Egypt lead in Group IV with six points, closely followed by Denmark on five.
