Britain’s Charlotte Fry and her stallion Glamourdale both claimed top positions in the newly published International Equestrian Federation (FEI) world rankings.

It followed their outstanding performance at the FEI Dressage World Championship in Herning in Denmark last August where they won two gold medals.

The 27-year-old from Yorkshire won the individual special dressage and the individual freestyle dressage in Herning, as well as being part of the British squad that finished second in the team dressage.

Fry has risen three places from number four to now sit atop of the rankings with a total of 2,120 points.

The 12-year-old Glamourdale is also on the top of the horses’ ranking, on 2,060 points, moving up from the 70th place he started last year in.

Fry, an Olympic bronze medallist in the team dressage at Tokyo 2020 on Everdale, and Glamourdale have become the first number one athletes since the new format of the FEI dressage world ranking was approved in 2022, where athletes and horses are listed separately.

Former number one, Germany’s Jessica Von Bredow-Werndl has dropped to number five after claiming the top spot back in August 2022, with 1,882 points.

Denmark’s Catherine Laudrup-Dufour maintains the second place after earning three medals at the World Championships, a gold and two silver medals, on 2,040 points.

Germany’s seven-time Olympic gold medallist Isabell Werth is third on 2,021 points and The Netherlands Dinja Van Liere fourth on 1,919 points complete the top five.

The FEI dressage world ranking for horses is completed by Hermes N.O.P, Van Liere's stallion, DSP Quantaz, Werth’s stallion, Touchdown, the gelding of Swedish rider Patrik Kittel, and Famoso OLD, gelding of Germany’s Benjamin Werndl.
