Kickboxer Alexandra Filipova from Slovakia has been named the World Games Athlete of December, after winning the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) World Pro title in the women's K1 under-71 kilogram category at the tail end of the year.

The 23-year-old defeated Aleksandra Krstic of Serbia in her first-ever fight over five rounds, by unanimous decision.

Even more importantly, Filipova achieved this in front of a home crowd at the WAKO World Championships in Poprad.

It was also a rematch of the final at the Birmingham 2022 World Games, which Krstic won unanimously on that occasion.

"My revenge for Birmingham was successful," said Filipova to the International World Games Association after winning her fight.

"I was afraid of the five rounds, I didn't know what to expect.

"Now, just after the fight, I can say I could handle one more round, but who knows how it will be tomorrow?

"Maybe I won't even be on my feet."

Earlier in the year, the Slovakian won gold medals on the Kickboxing World Series, including the Hungarian World Cup - a tournament she has won the last three times it has been held.
