The Northern Marianas Pacific Mini Games Organising Committee (MGOC) has pledged to pay back money owed to vendors and volunteers for their work at the Pacific Mini Games in June last year.

Social media posts showed volunteers had tried to cash cheques, but they bounced.

MGOC chair Marco Peter said these issues would be sorted.

"All obligations including volunteer reimbursements will be resolved," said Peter, according to the Saipan Tribune.

"There was a time when the Mini Games account was compromised and we had to hold outstanding cheques.

"We're working diligently with the Bank of Guam to resolve these outstanding payments which include volunteer reimbursement, such as the cheque.

"If you recall, the fraudulent cheque reimbursement made by Patricia Aldan is a case that is still ongoing which only magnified the issue of voluntary cheques being held."

Patricia Aldan, who is still wanted by the Northern Mariana Islands Department of Public Safety, is believed to be hiding in the Philippines, having defrauded organisers of $46,000 (£38,600/€43,700).

Aldan was a temporary employee at the MGOC and was originally given a cheque worth $27 (£22/€25) for mileage reimbursements.

The issue was flagged to police on August 2, the same day Aldan fled the island on a Jeju Airlines flight, with no final destination.

That same day, an arrest warrant was approved against Aldan by Superior Court associate judge Joseph N. Camacho.
