Dubai Club for People of Determination chairman Thani Juma Berregad has expressed his hope of successfully staging the Wheelchair Basketball World Championships and World Para Powerlifting Championships this year.

The events are set to take place in the Emirati city in June and August, respectively.

Berregad spoke at the organisation's final Board of Directors meeting of 2022 following the conclusion of the Fazza International Championships.

The meeting was also attended by vice-chairman of the Dubai Club Mohammed Abdul Karim Julfar, and Mona Hammad and Raeesa Al-Falasi, both members of the Board.

The event featured the Para Powerlifting World Cup which is claimed to have highlighted Dubai's importance as a destination for Para sport.

"The 2022 year was great, and we have had several wonderful events," said Berregad.

"The Fazza event reflected the strengths and capabilities of the UAE and Dubai in hosting such global events that attract many countries and champions.

"We hope to stage many more amazing events in future and live up to the expectations of everyone as a host nation when we host the two World Championships next year."

The Board also discussed potential future investment projects for commercial buildings and new facilities.

These are in addition to the existing project to build a crafts centre by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments.
