Ju-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF) World Championships gold medallists Kimberly Anne Custodio and Margarita Ochoa have been commended in the Philippines' House of Representatives for their success in Abu Dhabi.

A resolution in the lower house of the Congress attributed their victories to "sheer determination, hard work and perseverance", and claimed that their "outstanding performance and great strides" would inspire young athletes and women in jiu-jitsu.

It added that "their success puts the Philippines at the forefront of the fastest-growing martial arts sport, jiu-jitsu competitions".

This was introduced to the House of Representatives by Speaker Martin Romualdez, Majority Leader Manuel Jose "Mannix" Dalipe, Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan and other lawmakers.

Custodio triumphed in the women's under-45 kilogram event by beating Thailand's Kacie Pechrada Tan, while Ochoa came out on top in the under-48kg category by overcoming Canada’s Ni Ni Vicky Hoang in the final.

Custodio has previously earned a silver medal at the 2016 World Championships in Long Beach and bronze in 2019, while Ochoa was victorious at the event in 2018.

The Philippines was represented by four female and four male athletes at the JJIF World Championships in the United Arab Emirates capital.
