President of World Taekwondo, Choue Chung-won, believes that the global governing bodies of judo and his sport "can be role models for many other organisations" as they both actively work to help refugees and displaced people.

Choue has travelled to Tashkent in Uzbekistan which is hosting the World Judo Championships.

It is the flagship event of the International Judo Federation (IJF) and Choue made the trip as the two bodies have developed a good relationship with him considering President Marius Vizer to be a friend.

In 2019, the two signed a Memorandum of Understanding to be more active in assisting refugees.

"I believe that judo and taekwondo have a bright future and we can be role models for many other organisations," Choue said.

"We are happy to welcome anyone who has the same objective.

"It is very important.

"Sport is the perfect tool to develop a better world.

"I want to thank President Vizer for the invitation.

"I consider him as my brother.

"Every time we have the chance to meet, I think we are moving forward.

"He is a wonderful president for judo and under his leadership, the sport has developed a lot.

"I wish him and his team great success."

The 74-year-old commented that judo and taekwondo's bond partially comes from the fact that they are the "only Asian rooted sports" on the Olympic programme.

Choue also praised the host country and its capital for the growth he has seen since his last visit.

"I can see that the city has changed a lot," he said.

"There has been a huge development of the country, with many buildings being constructed.

"Uzbekistan is growing, progressing fast and I am really happy to witness that and to be here."
