Hungary's Mári Érdi leads the women's contest at the ILCA 6 World Championships in Texas.

The two-time Olympian placed fourth and first in two races on Galveston Bay, finishing the opening day with a total of five points.

The Netherlands' Marit Bouwmeester - a three-time Olympic medallist, including winning gold at Rio2016 - is second, tied with Sarah Douglas.

Bouwmeester and Canada's Douglas had identical days, finishing second in their respective fleet's first race and fourth in the second.

Silvia Zennaro from Italy has eight points in fourth, while defending world champion Emma Plasschaert has nine in fifth place overall.

Plasschaert was a race winner, along with American Charlotte Rose and Lucía Falasca from Argentina.

Olympic champion Anne-Marie Rindom placed 10th then second in her two races and the Dane is ninth overall.

ILCA 6 - also known as laser radial - is an Olympic class for women, but not men.

American Peter Barnard leads the men's event in Texas, having finished second and first in the opening two races.

Racing at the ILCA 6 World Championships is due to resume tomorrow and reach a climax on Sunday (October 16).
