Germany gained revenge against England by triumphing on the second day of back-to-back matches in the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Pro League in Mönchengladbach.

Germany had fallen to narrow defeats yesterday, with their women’s team losing 4-3 and their men’s squad suffering a 1-0 loss.

A reversal appeared likely early on in the second women’s match, as Charlotte Stapenhorst and Nike Lorenz struck in the opening six minutes at the Warsteiner HockeyPark.

England had equalised quickly twice yesterday after falling behind, but were only able to muster a response in the 50th minute today.

Hannah Martin’s effort after a penalty corner threatened to spark a late England revival.

Hannah Gablac and Pia Maertens ensured victory for Germany, scoring in the 55th and 58th minutes to seal a 4-1 triumph.

"That was a really good game by us today, we had the right focus and the right mentality," said Sonja Zimmermann, the player of the match.

"We tried to do what the coach asked us and it worked."

Germany lie fourth in the Women’s Hockey Pro League standings following the victory, moving to 16 points from 10 matches.

India and The Netherlands are the top two in the standings with 22 and 19 points from eight matches, while Argentina are third on 18 points after winning all six of their ties.

Defeat keeps England in fifth place with eight points from six matches.

England made a perfect start of the men’s match today, with David Condon finding the net in the third minute.

Germany had been unable to find a way through England yesterday, but broke through in the 21st minute today when Malte Hellwig turned in a penalty corner.

Tom Grambusch struck from a penalty corner in the 36th minute to give Germany the lead for the first time.

The effort prompted a dramatic period in the match, with Samuel Ward equalising four minutes later.

Gonzalo Peillat restored Germany’s lead one minute later, as the hosts eventually held on to secure a 3-2 victory.

Germany have risen to second in the men’s FIH Pro League standings, with 20 points earned from 12 matches.

India are seven points clear having played the same number of matches.

Argentina and The Netherlands have 19 and 16 points to complete the top four, with the nations having played 10 and six matches, respectively.

England remain seventh in the standings with 10 points from eight matches.
