Ella Gibson became the first Briton to win an individual Archery World Cup gold for 12 years as she triumphed in the women's compound event in Antalya, while Dutch world number one Mike Schloesser came out on top in the men's compound.

Medal matches are being staged at the temporary Antalya Konyaalti Beach Park Ceremony Area in the Turkish city.

Gibson beat Chinese Taipei's Chen Yi-hsuan 144-142 in the semi-final to set up a decider against Colombia's Alejandra Usquiano, who had seen off Estonia's Lisell Jaatma 144-143.

Gibson became the first British archer to reach the final of a World Cup for 10 years, and the first to claim gold for 12 years after defeating Usquiano 147-145.

"It’s amazing, I still can’t really believe it if I’m honest," Gibson said.

"It wasn’t in my plans for this year.

"I was thinking if it happens, great, if it doesn’t, then it doesn’t."

Jaatma took bronze with a 149-146 win against Chen in the match for third.

World champion Schloesser triumphed 149-147 over Jean Philippe Boulch of France in the semi-finals, but Adrien Gontier ensured there was a French presence in the final by beating Puerto Rico's Jean Pizarro 149-147.

Schloesser proved too strong for his opponent in the decider, clinching victory by 148 points to 142.

Boulch finished third after beating Pizarro 149-146 in the bronze medal match.

Both Gibson and Schloesser have ensured automatic qualification for October's World Cup Final in Tlaxcala in Mexico.

Germany denied the host nation Turkey a gold medal in the women's team compound final, triumphing by 228 points to 224.

That was followed by a narrow 232-231 win for India against France in the men's team compound final, and a 157-156 victory for Colombia over Slovenia in the mixed team compound gold medal match.

Competition is due to conclude in Antalya tomorrow with the recurve finals.
