Three-time Paralympic gold medallist Nachman Wolf has died aged 70.

Wolf mainly competed in the F41 category and was an expert in a variety of track and field disciplines, particularly the discus throw in which he broke the world record six times.

At the 1984 Stoke Mandeville and New York Paralympics, the first Games Wolf attended, he was an ever-present on the podium with gold in discus and shot put, plus silver medals in the javelin throw and pentathlon.

Wolf followed up this success at Seoul 1988, retaining his discus throw title and securing silver medals in shot put and javelin.

Barcelona 1992 did not see Wolf add to his medal collection, but the Games in Atlanta four years later saw him achieve a silver in the discus.

This was Wolf's last Paralympic medal, with Sydney 2000 being the final Paralympic Games of his career.

On the state of Israel’s 60th anniversary, Wolf was awarded the title of Athlete of the Decade.

Wolf, who contracted polio as a baby and as a result lost the movement of a leg, went on to hold various positions at the Israel Association for Children with Disabilities' Haifa Sports Center, coaching and inspiring the next generation of Israeli Paralympic athletes.

"Nachman was one of the most prominent Paralympic athletes, who brought honour and pride to the Paralympic Israeli sports," Israel Paralympic Committee general manager and swimming gold medalist Ron Bolotin told the Jerusalem Post.
