The Russian Sambo Championship is set to be hosted in the Sverdlovsk region from February 24 to March 1, 2022.

This was confirmed by Russia's official state news agency, TASS, who had seen a report in the department of information policy in Sverdlovsk that said Governor Evgeny Kuyvashev had signed an order to host the Championship in the town of Verkhnyaya Pyshma.

The venue for the tournament will be the Sports Palace of the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC).

According to the UMMC website, they are the holding company for 40 companies in Russia and are one of the largest Russian commodity producers, especially in metals like zinc, gold, and silver.

The winners of the tournament will earn the right to compete at the World Sambo Championships, set to be held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan between November 10 and 14.

Meanwhile, silver medallists in the tournament can compete at the European Sambo Championships, set to be hosted in the same Russian town between May 26 and 30.

The Russian Sambo Championship will welcome more than 80 athletes, from the Sverdlovsk area, fighting for the space to qualify for the competitions later in the year.

The athletes are currently training at a base close to the Sverdlovsk Oblast town of Sysert.
