Dr Laura Hebert has been appointed as the new chair of the World Lacrosse Rules Committee.

The Rules Committee is responsible for supporting World Lacrosse’s continental federations and 73 national federations regarding the rules of the sport.

As a part of her role, Hebert will have an oversight and serve as an ex-officio member of subcommittees in four categories - men’s field, women’s field, box, and sixes.

"Laura’s experience as both an official and administrator made her the ideal candidate for this important role," said Don Blacklock, World Lacrosse technical director and the Board member responsible for oversight of the Rules Committee.

"Her exceptional knowledge of the sport coupled with her proven leadership abilities will be great assets for World Lacrosse and our members around the world."

The former chair of USA Lacrosse, who has a doctorate in education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, will provide three decades of experience from her days as an on-field official and administrator.

During her two years at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) between 2019 and 2021, she worked as a national coordinator for women’s lacrosse officiating.

Her 25 years of officiating included the finals of the NCAA Division I and Division III tournaments.

The current superintendent of the Ravenna School District in Cleveland, Ohio, has also been honoured with USA’s Lacrosse’s Distinguished National Service Award and Nancy Chance Service Award.

"World Lacrosse has a strong vision of being recognised and played by all countries in the world, and I’m excited to now be part of that journey," she said.

"I look forward to leveraging my experience in support of lacrosse on the global stage alongside the sport’s top athletes and administrators."
