Saber Jlajla, the vice-president for Africa on the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WSBC) Baseball Division Board, has been named President of the Tunisian Olympic Academy.

The 53-year-old was unanimously elected to the role during the first meeting of the Executive Board of the Tunisian Olympic Committee, chaired by Mehrez Boussayene.

Jlajla was nominated for the position following his original election to the Executive Board in December 2021.

Jlajla is also the President of the Tunisian Baseball and Softball Federation (FTBS).

The new Olympic Academy President will oversee a body which aims to preserve and proclaim the principles of the Olympic spirit.

This includes implementing social and educational principles and securing the scientific basis of the Olympic ideal.

Jlajla was a member of the golden era of Tunisian baseball during the 1980s and his career path led him to become the manager of the national team.

He was elected President of the FTBS in 2012.

Tunisia has played a crucial role in promoting the WBSC in recent years, with the first-ever WBSC Congress in May 2014 being held in the country.

Tunisia, which became one of the first countries to introduce Baseball5 in July 2018, is now promoting the sport in the nation's schools.
