The Camp, organised by the German Olympic Sports Federation, opened a day before the Opening Ceremony in the Chinese capital last Friday (February 4), is taking place in Bischofsgrün in the High Fichtelgebirge towards the bottom of the Ochsenkopf mountain.

It contains educational programme packed with workshops, guest speakers and sporting activities.

Dialogue forums are being used for the participants to discuss with people from sport, society, and politics. 

Visits to the German House and other cultural sights have also been planed.

Talking points of the programme include sustainability concepts for major sports events in Germany and a China-specific theme day where Beijing 2022 topics and challenges are dived into.

The participants will be engaging in cross-country skiing, amateur biathlon, snowshoeing and ice skating.

However, breaking away to play some sport is not limited to winter-themed sports as table tennis and rock climbing were played on the first couple of days of the programme, which is due to last until next Sunday (February 13)

Bavarian Minister-President Dr Markus Söder has planned to visit the camp based in the newly-opened Sportcamp Nordbayern of the Bavarian State Sports Association.

A total of 40 young people aged between 16 and 19 are attending the youth camp organised by the German Olympic Academy and the German Sports Youth - two groups under German Olympic Sports Confederation’s scope.

Participants were selected based on outstanding voluntary commitment in sport and exceptional sporting achievements.
