Sabine Schoeffmann and Alexander Payer delivered a home Snowboard World Cup victory for Austria in the first team parallel giant slalom event to be held in Simonhöhe.

The Austrian duo edged out Germany’s Melanie Hochreiter and Stefan Baumeister, who won the men's individual race yesterday, in the big final to top the podium.

The German pair had led at the halfway stage before Schoeffmann hit back to clinch the Austrian snowboard team's fourth victory of the week.

Joeng Hae-rim and Lee Sang-ho of South Korea beat Russia's Polina Smolentsova and Andrei Sobolev in the small final to take the bronze medal.

The win for Schoeffmann and Payer saw the Austrians reduce the gap to compatriots Julia Dujmovits and Arvid Auner, who triumphed in the team event at Bad Gastein earlier this week, to five points in the race for the overall crystal globe.

Dujmovits and Auner have 150 points, with their compatriots hot on their heels on 145.

The race was the final Snowboard World Cup event before the opening of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics on February 4.
