Birmingham 2022 has revealed the schedules for the women's cricket and netball tournaments which will take place at next year's Commonwealth Games.

Both sports will begin on July 29 with world champions Australia beginning the Twenty20 cricket event with a Group A clash against India.

Pakistan will play Barbados in the group's other game on the same day, with the Caribbean side picked to represent the West Indies.

Women's cricket, and the T20 format, has never featured at the Commonwealth Games before with matches due to take place at Edgbaston.

Group B will begin on July 30 with New Zealand taking on South Africa.

Hosts England will then begin against the winner of next year's qualifying tournament.

The top two sides in each group will reach the semi-finals which are planned for August 6.

Both the final and the bronze-medal match will take place the next day.

In netball, six countries are still yet to confirm their places in Birmingham, where matches will take place at the NEC.

Defending champions England will begin against a qualifier in Group A before taking on Malawi the following day.

World Cup winners New Zealand will lock horns with England in the final game of the group stage.

Three-time champions Australia headline Group B and will meet South Africa in their first confirmed game after two clashes against qualifiers.

The semi-finals featuring the top two in each group are planned for August 6, with the medal matches the following day.

All of the medal matches in cricket and netball have been scheduled apart to allow fans to enjoy a bumper day of women's sport with no clashes.

"It is a special milestone to be unveiling the first matches for Birmingham 2022," said Commonwealth Games Federation sport director Ann-Louise Morgan.

"There is no doubt that the cricket T20 and netball competitions will showcase the very best of Commonwealth Sport as well as women's sport.

"We have been delighted to see such huge interest in tickets for both of these sports, but we are pleased that there are still opportunities for cricket and netball fans to attend the Games in person."

Birmingham 2022 tickets are expected to go on general sale soon after the ballot phase came to an end.

"Not surprisingly we have already sold thousands of tickets for both the netball and cricket T20 sessions through our ticket ballots, but we know that some fans have been waiting to find out the details of the match schedules before choosing which sessions they want to attend, so we're expecting these sports to sell quickly, when ticket sales go live," said Birmingham 2022 director of sport Matt Kidson.

"If there are netball and cricket fans who haven't yet set up their ticketing account, then now would be a great time to do so, as tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis, once the general sale begins."
