The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) has partnered with the Play It Green organisation as part of its sustainability drive.

The IFAF is hoping the agreement with the sustainability specialists will help it "set new standards" in the area.

Play It Green, created to provide a simple and cost-effective way for people, businesses, schools and sports clubs to take the next step to a more sustainable future, will work with IFAF at its major events under the terms of the deal.

The IFAF released its sustainability vision in 2021 and is committed to upholding the five principles of the UN’s Sports for Climate Action Framework, which the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has urged all sports bodies to sign up to.

"The IFAF has a clear objective to balance the social, economic and environmental impact of the sport of American football," said outgoing IFAF President Richard MacLean.

"IFAF and its members are driven to support the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the IOC’s sustainability strategy and make a positive impact on a series of the sustainable development goals.

"Through being partnered with Play It Green, IFAF and its members will have access to sector expertise to support education and development."
