Riga claimed victory at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 World Tour Abu Dhabi Masters with the same line-up that won gold for Latvia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Karlis Lasmanis, Edgars Krumins, Agnis Čavars and Nauris Miezis helped the Latvian side to victory at the expense of Serbian side Ub in the final 21-18, with all players scoring between five and six points during the title match.

Earlier Riga had beaten Amsterdam 16-12 in their quarter-final and Antwerp 21-12 in their semi-final.

Ub, who had led the season’s standings going into this round in the United Arab Emirates, battled to the final after knockout wins over Princeton 19-16 in the last eight and Liman 20-18 after overtime in the last four.

Earlier the day’s other quarter-final matches saw Liman overcome Ulaanbaatar 19-9 and Antwerp defeat Gagarin 22-12.

Lasmanis was named as the Most Valuable Player of the event after leading the scoring charts alongside Ub’s Strahinja Stojacic, with both players scoring 36 points.

Ub still lead the season’s standings on 410 points, but have had their advantage reduced to 25, with Riga, last season’s World Tour winners, in second place on 385 points.

The seventh and final FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters competition of the season is scheduled to take place in Mexico City on November 6 and 7, before the World Tour Final, due to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on December 17 and 18.
