Russia - second in the season standings - were surprise casualties of the pool stage at the International Basketball Federation 3x3 Women's Series leg in Constanta.

An under-25 Russian side also exited on a miserable day for the country, while host nation Romania and Austria are also out.

Russia were beaten 10-9 by Hungary in the opening game of the day, and later fell 17-12 to Germany.

Germany topped Pool A, also beating Hungary 12-3, and have set up a quarter-final versus 3x3 Women's Series leaders Spain.

The Spanish had to settle for second place in Pool C, following a 15-9 loss to the Dutch.

With 29 points, Germany are the leading scorers so far, but Canada ad Slovakia each scored 28 points in winning their groups.

Canada face Poland in the last eight, Hungary will play The Netherlands and Slovakia are up against the United States.

The US won the last leg in Klaipeda, but only one member of the winning team there is playing in Romania.

One regular-season leg follows Constanta, in Montreal, before the circuit returns to Romania for the end-of-season finale in Bucharest.

Romania have already qualified as hosts, and will be joined by the seven teams with the most points after Montreal.

This season, the winners of the Bucharest final will be crowned overall 3x3 Women's Series champions.
