Brazilian athletes from six different sports have gathered at the Paralympic Training Centre in São Paulo for final onboarding and preparations before flying to Japan for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Swimming, goalball, powerlifting, table tennis, athletics and sitting volleyball athletes are currently at the venue, with the first athletes set to fly to Japan on Thursday (August 5).

The first members of the Brazilian delegation will head to Hamamatsu, which is 160 miles south-west of Tokyo and has a significant Brazilian population, for a pre-Paralympics camp.

Athletes from 14 sports are expected to pass through the Paralympic Training Centre en route to Japan, and are due to spend time in Hamamatsu to help them acclimatise before the Paralympics, which are due to begin on August 24.

Brazil is due to send a 256-strong team of competitors to the Paralympics, comprising 160 men and 96 women.

A Technical, Medical and Administrative Commission is set to accompany the athletes, taking the number of travellers up to 431.

Brazil hosted the last edition of the Summer Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

The country won 72 medals, consisting of 14 golds, 29 silvers and 29 bronzes, and placed in eighth in the overall medal table.
