The main event round, which offers a more direct route to the men's and women's finals at Surf City, was resuming after a day's break.

In the men’s main event six fourth round heats took place with the highest winning points total going to Leon Glatzer of Germany in the last of the heats with 15.5 points.

The other heats were won by Shun Murakami of Japan with 13.5 points, Aritz Aranburu of Spain with 13.67 points, Joan Duru of France with 10.77 points and Kanoa Igarashi of Japan with 15.4 points.

In the women’s main event four fourth round heats were contested with the highest winning points total going to Teresa Bonvalot of Portugal with 14.66 points.

The other three heats at this stage were won by Daniella Rosas of Peru with 13.76 points, Yolanda Sequeira of Portugal with 9.67 points and Lucia Indurain of Argentina with 8.17 points.

The repechage competition, which offers a second chance to surfers eliminated from the main event round, also continued today.

In the men’s repechage fourth round nine heats took place with the highest winning points total going to Costa Rica’s Noe Mar McGonagle with 15.67 points.

Surfers from Mexico, Portugal, Britain, South Africa, Argentina, Panama, Australia and Peru also won their heats at this stage.

In the fifth round of the men’s repechage a further six heats also took place with the highest winning points total going to Leonardo Fioravanti of Italy, who scored 15.4 points to win the last heat.

Surfers from Peru, South Africa, Morocco and Britain also won their heats, as did Bryan Perez, who won his heat on home water for El Salvador with 14.37 points.

In the women’s repechage fourth round eight heats took place with the highest winning points total going to Sally Fitzgibbons of Australia, as the winner of the last round of the women's World Surf League ran out a convincing winner of her heat with 17.5 points.

Surfers from Germany, Israel, the Philippines, France, Britain, Italy and Portugal also won their heats at this stage.

In the fifth round of the women’s repechage four more heats took place with France’s Vahine Fierro the highest scoring heat winner with 11.83 points.

The other three heats at this stage were won by surfers from Australia, Israel and Portugal.

Action is scheduled to continue tomorrow at El Sunzal, which is co-hosting competition along with La Bocana, with three heats in the fifth round of the men's main event, followed by repechage action in the women's sixth round and men's sixth and seventh rounds.
