More than 100 archers from 13 countries are due to take part in the Sud de France Nimes Archery Tournament this weekend - one of the sport's biggest in-person events to have been staged since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Elimination matches begin tomorrow, with the event having been delayed by two weeks due to the French Government's pandemic-related restrictions on sporting events.

Having initially been planned to coincide with stage three of the remote 2021 Indoor Archery World Series, it now acts as a bonus stage.

There are 43 men's recurve, 20 women's recurve, 32 men's compound and 16 women's compound entries in all, with all athletes and officials having to have presented a negative coronavirus test at tournament registration.

Anti-virus measures such as the wearing of masks and athletes being spaced further apart than usual will be in place, while a 6pm-to-6am curfew is currently in force across France, with those at the tournament being subject to it.

Mass-participation youth and masters contests were scrapped for health reasons, as was the customary trade show.

Archers from Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Luxembourg, Mexico, The Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Switzerland and Sweden have travelled to the event, while more than half of competitors will be French.

Dutchman Mike Schloesser, men's individual compound world champion in 2013, and German Lisa Unruh, winner of an Olympic silver medal in the women's contest at Rio 2016, headline the field.

Bronze and gold-medal matches are due to be shown on the World Archery YouTube channel on Sunday (January 31).
