World Baseball Softball Confederation President Riccardo Fraccari said they are working hard to ensure that the final two baseball Olympic qualification events go ahead as planned after they were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said in a statement that the Confederation, along with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are "working tirelessly" to make sure the qualification events go ahead but have acknowledged the "rapidly-evolving situation".

The final Olympic baseball qualifier is scheduled to take place in Taiwan from June 17 to 21 after the original date was postponed.

Fraccari also said the WBSC will continue to act in the interest of the health and welfare of the baseball-softball community and will be responsible to stop the spread of coronavirus.

"During these difficult times, I recognise that concerns have been raised about the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games," said Fraccari.

"The IOC has reiterated their commitment to hosting a safe and secure event and the WBSC continues to plan accordingly for the Games."

There have been over 288,000 confirmed cases globally to date with more than 11,900 deaths related to the virus.
