Scottish Squash has announced the appointment of Graeme Jones and Marc Hope as non-executive directors to the Board, with Jones responsible for performance and Hope having a finance and commercial brief.

Jones is an extremely qualified high-performance practitioner and manager who possesses a wealth of experience working with industry-leading bodies, including the Scottish Football Association (SFA) and UEFA - leading teams in science, medicine and analysis.

He constructed and led the high-performance support team and environment that aided the Scotland women’s national team gaining qualification for the 2019 FIFA World Cup and the men’s national team winning their UEFA Nations League group in November 2018.

Jones was appointed as the SFA's first-ever head of high performance and also head of football science and medicine, and he planned, organised and led in the delivery of the first-ever SFA Sports Science and Medicine Conference.

He has worked as an applied sports scientist at every level of international football, from men and women’s A downwards, for more than 10 years and he has worked with FIFA and UEFA in the development of physical fitness.

Jones was appointed on to the Scottish Squash Board following an open recruitment process and will chair the player and coach advisory group.

"I am honoured to be appointed as a non-executive director to the Board with responsibility for performance at Scottish Squash," he said.

"With squash having played such an important role in my social and sporting life over the past decade, I am excited to be able to utilise my professional skill set in the performance support of the players and coaches at Scottish Squash."

Hope, meanwhile, is said to bring broad and relevant experience to the Board having been heavily involved with the commercial side of many of the Britain's leading Olympic and Paralympic sports.

He has prolific experience and in-depth understanding of funding national and international sport, and is extremely well-connected within the world of sport - governing bodies, teams, major events and brands.

Hope brought in a multi-million-pound deal with dairy products producer Müller, first as a Team GB sponsor going into the Rio 2016 Olympics then as British Athletics' lead sponsor.

He also played a pivotal role driving the sponsorship programme for four years through to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and, it is claimed, is ideally placed to drive maximum value and benefit to Scottish Squash’s build-up to the 2022 edition in Birmingham.

Hope is appointed to his role at Scottish Squash following an open recruitment process and will chair the Finance Committee.

"I am delighted to be joining the Board of Scottish Squash," he said.

"I relish the opportunity to immerse myself in a new sport, including as an ambassador for Scottish Squash to new sponsors, stakeholders and the public.

"I know key stakeholders - sportscotland, the Scottish Institute of Sport, UK Sport, and the Scottish Government/Members of the Scottish Parliament - well and I’m keen to further develop these relationships for the benefit of Scottish Squash."
