Russia swept the men's and women's team recurve titles on the opening day of finals at the European Indoor Archery Championships in Samsun.

The Russian trio of Erdem Tsydypov, Arsalan Baldanov and Bolot Tsybzhitov cruised to the men's crown with a dominant 5-1 victory over Ukraine.

Turkey delivered a podium finish for the home crowd as they beat Italy 5-4 after a tense shoot-out in the bronze medal match.

Sayana Tsyrempilova completed the first leg of a potential double as she helped Russia to the women's team title.

Tsyrempilova, who will go for individual gold tomorrow, Inna Stepanova and Viktoria Budaeva triumphed in the final, edging Georgia 5-4 to add to the Russian success in the Turkish city.

Ukraine, the second seeds, overcame Belarus by the same scoreline to secure bronze and join Russia and Georgia on the podium.

France justified their billing as the top seeds in the men's team compound event as they proved too strong for Italy in the final.

The team of Adrien Gontier, who will bid for the individual title in tomorrow's final, Pierre-Julien Deloche and Jean Philippe Bolch ousted Italy 238-231 in a one-sided gold medal contest.

The bronze medals were sealed by The Netherlands, who denied Turkey with a 236-233 victory.
