The International Judo Federation (IJF) Grand Prix series heads to The Netherlands for the second edition of the Hague event as world champions compete for 2020 Olympic Games qualification points.

More than 400 participants from 62 countries in four Olympic continents are expected to compete at the Sportcampus Zuiderpark in an event due to conclude on Sunday (November 18).

Each day will see five weight categories contested, with $3,000 (£2,350/€2,650) in prize money on offer for the winners.

Grand Prix champions will also gain valuable Olympic qualification points as the build-up to Tokyo 2020 intensifies.

Iran’s Saeid Mollaei returns to the tatami in the men’s under-81 kilgrams category after he won the gold medal in the IJF World Judo Championships in Baku in September.

He enters the most competitive category as 44 other athletes, including rival Frank de Wit of The Netherlands, have also entered the event.

Spain’s history-making world champion Nikoloz Sherazadishvili will also fight in The Hague in the under-90kg competition - the event where the Georgian-born fighter won the world title in Baku.

The world number one is expected to face stiff competition from the world number two Aleksandar Kukolj of Serbia.

In the women’s events, home favourite Juul Franssen goes in the under-63kg competition hoping to defend her Dutch Grand Prix title.

The world number one is the top seed in the event after taking the bronze medal at the World Championships in Baku.

Italy’s Alice Bellandi will be looking for her first IJF Grand Prix medal as the world junior champion competes in the under-70kg event.
