More than 3,000 people attended an Asian Games fun run in Vietnamese city Bacninh.

The event was an Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) initiative designed to raise awareness for this year's Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia.

Among those to attend were Tran Van Manh, the general secretary of the Vietnam Olympic Committee.

Representatives from the OCA and Jakarta Palembang 2018 were also part of the celebrations.

"Fun run day is very meaningful in educating the Olympic spirit for the younger generation," said Tran.

"In addition, this programme will help expand the knowledge about sport and the Olympic Movement through the exciting and cultural activities for children - thereby encouraging them to participate more in physical exercise."

The 2018 Asian Games will be held from August 18 to September 2 across the two Indonesian cities.

About 10,000 athletes from 45 National Olympic Committees will be competing in 40 sports and 462 events.

Vietnam won 36 medals at the last Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.

They claimed one gold, 10 silver and 25 bronze in 2014.

Vietnam's capital Hanoi was originally chosen as host of the next Asian Games but withdrew due to financial reasons.

They were due to be staged in 2019 but were moved forward to this year when Indonesia assumed responsibility.
