Canon will provide press coverage of the Games with behind-the-scenes support, such as equipment loans and camera maintenance services.

The company will also offer organisers its extensive products and services as part of the deal.

It follows the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) signing a marketing rights agreement with the Organising Committee last year.

The announcement provides a boost to Jakarta Palembang 2018's sponsorship portfolio prior to the visit of the OCA Coordination Committee.

The Committee will inspect preparations for this year's Asian Games during the two-day visit, scheduled to begin tomorrow.

It will be the eighth time the OCA Coordination Committee, chaired by Japanese Olympic Committee President and International Olympic Committee member Tsunekazu Takeda, has travelled to Indonesia.

Venues, particularly the velodrome and equestrian centres, sponsorship and engagement are among the topics likely to be discussed during the visit, which will include venue tours and meetings with the Organising Committee.

The volunteer programme could also be addressed following claims they would be paid for working during the Games.

Jakarta Palembang 2018 President Erick Thohir, the businessman who is part-owner of Italian football club Inter Milan, dismissed the suggestions earlier this week.

It had been claimed on social media that volunteers could be financially rewarded with a daily allowance of around $45 (£33/€37) per day.

Thohir strongly refuted the claims and insisted their volunteer programme was in line with that of other major multi-sport events.

"The information circulating about paid volunteers is not true," he said.

"We do not use any outside agents or coordinators to recruit volunteers.”

The 2018 Asian Games are due to run from August 18 to September 2.
