Taipei 2017 wushu silver medallist Jomar Balangui has been congratulated for his achievement at the recent Summer Universiade by boxing legend Manny Pacquiao during a visit to the Filipino Senator's office in Manila.

Balangui, a silver medallist in the men's sanda under 52 kilograms category during wushu's Universiade debut, paid a courtesy call to Pacquiao along with a delegation from the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP).

He presented his medal to Pacquiao, the eight-division world champion who turned to politics last year.

Balangui's wushu team-mates from the Summer Universiade in Taipei - captain Gladys Sia, Sean Elijah Siy, Eal Von Erick Pasno, Abigail Faniega, Czarina Hagos and Kelly Marcelo - were also present at the visit to Pacquiao's office.

Honorary FESSAP President David Ong and executive vice-president Robert Milton Calo were among the dignitaries in attendance.

Ong gave Pacquiao, due to serve a six-year term through to 2022 as a Senator in the Philippines, a video copy of the Opening Ceremony from Taipei 2017 and also spoke to the 38-year-old about the Summer Universiade.

The FESSAP official also informed the boxer, who has not yet retired from the sport despite suffering a shock defeat to Australian Jeff Horn back in July, about the 2019 edition of the Universiade in Naples.

Balangui won the silver medal after beating American Isiah Ray Enriquez in the semi-final before losing to China's Peng Yuan in the final.

It was the only medal claimed by the Philippines at the event in Taipei.
