Marwa Amri of Tunisia secured her ninth African Wrestling Championship gold medal as she topped the podium in the women's 60 kilograms event in Marrakesh.

The dominant Tunisian enjoyed a serene run to the final, where she proved too strong for Bisola Makanjula of Nigeria at the Complexe Zerktouni.

Amina Benabderrahmane took home the bronze medal.

Nigeria also enjoyed a successful opening day of senior competition in the Moroccan city as Blessing Oborududu clinched her seventh continental crown in the 63kg event.

The two-time Olympian and Commonwealth Games silver medalist beat Berthe Emilienne Etane Ngolle of Cameroon in the gold medal bout.

Lila Mejri of Tunisia was the recipient of the bronze medal.

Miesinnei Genesis was another Nigerian gold medallist as she ousted Sarra Hamdi of Tunisa in the final, with bronze going to Kheira Chaimaa Yahiaoui of Algeria.

Dressman Kemasuodei followed her compatriot onto the top of the podium as she reigned supreme in the 69kg weight class.

The Nigeria wrestler dominated her final bout with Cameroon's Blandine Metala Epanga, emerging with a 10-4 triumph to ensure she claimed the African Wrestling Championship title.

Anta Sambou of Senegal earned bronze.

Maroi Mezien added to the Tunisian haul by winning the 53kg crown, her first gold medal at the event since 2014.

She sealed her fourth continental title by overcoming Bose Samuel of Nigeria in the final.

In the men's Greco-Roman, Abouhalima Abouhalima, who represented his country at the London 2012 Olympic Games, delivered gold for Egypt in the 66kg weight division by overcoming Algeria's Tarek Benaissa.

Bilal El Bahja of Morocco took home the bronze medal in the category.

Egypt were denied further success in the 80kg event as Bachir Sid Alaza of Algeria edged Mahmoud Sebie 6-4 in a hard-fought final.

Nigeria's Tochukwu Micheal did enough for the bronze medal.

Abdennour Laouni added another gold to the Algerian collection in Marrakesh as he saw off the challenge of Morocco's Anwar Tango to claim 59kg glory.

Bronze was sealed by Democratic Republic of the Congo wrestler Ngeta Ibamda.
