Paralympic champion Vasyl Kovalchuk clinched gold in the R5 10 metres air rifle prone mixed SH2 event on the final day of action at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Shooting World Cup in Szczecin in Poland.

The Ukrainian scored a total of 212.6 points to finish ahead of New Zealand’s Michael Johnson, second with 211.3, and Great Britain’s Ryan Cockbill, third with 189.7.

Earlier in the P5 10m air pistol standard SH1, two-time Paralympic silver medallist Sergey Malyshev of Russia achieved first place with 353.0 points, followed by Poland’s Slawomir Okoniewski with 348.0.

Russia’s Natalia Dalekova beat compatriot Anastasiia Panteleeva in a shoot-off, 47.0 to 38.0, after both finished on 342.0 points.

The competition in Szczecin provided the final chance for athletes to shoot at a World Cup ahead of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Although Rio 2016 quota places have already been decided, athletes were looking to impress their national coaches as they look to secure their spots at the Paralympics, where competition will take place from September 8 to 14.
