Team leaders and representatives from around 30 Asian NOCs have arrived in the Japanese city ahead of a three day Chef de Mission Seminar due to begin tomorrow.

The event will be coordinated by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) honorary life vice-president Wei Jizhong of China, who claims to be "very impressed" with the latest plans and preparations.

Presentations will be provided from the various departments of the Organising Committee along with site visits to the venues and athlete hotels.

There will also be time for "one-on-one meetings to iron out any specific concerns for NOCs or sports protocol and operations", a statement said.

Sapporo appears to have enjoyed a far more low-key and trouble-free build-up in comparison to those for other Asian multi-sport events in recent years, such as the Asian Youth Games which will now take place in Jakarta later next year after being stripped from Sri Lanka.

Around 1,500 athletes from 30 NOCs are expected to compete in the Games, scheduled to take place from February 19 to 26.

Eleven venues are in Sapporo, with co-host Obihiro set to host speed skating competition.

It will mark the eighth Asian Winter Games but the first since one co-hosted by Almaty and Astana in Kazakhstan in 2011.

Sapporo also hosted the first two editions in 1986 and 1990.

Aomori in Japan played host to the fifth event in 2003.
