Double world champion sit-skier Corey Peters has been named as athlete of the year for 2015 by Snow Sport New Zealand after a superb season.

Peters scooped global titles in the downhill and super-G in Panorama in Canada in March, as well as a silver medal in the giant slalom.

He was also named athlete of the year for 2014 after winning a silver medal at the 2014 Paralympic Games in Sochi and he had further success this year with a third-placed overall finish in the World Cup.

This season he also won the giant slalom at the IPC Snow Sports New Zealand National Championships and placed second in the slalom at the IPCAS Southern Hemisphere Cup, held as part of the Audi Quattro Winter Games.

His results are the more impressive as he only took up sit-skiing in 2001, after he suffered a crushed spinal cord in a motocross accident which left him paralysed in 2009. 

Attendees of this year’s Snow Sports New Zealand Annual Awards were entertained by a guest panel who gave the audience an insight into their "Life in Snow Sports".

The panel was interviewed by Snow Sports New Zealand Head Park and Pipe Coach Tom Willmott, and included professional snowboarder Will Jackways, Winter Olympic team physio Ginny Rutledge, Paralympic gold medallist Adam Hall, Olympian and Chef de Mission to the 2016 Youth Olympic Winter Games Jesse Teat, and free-ski pioneer and founder of clothing company Mons Royale, Hamish Acland.
