The list also includes South Korea, whose archer Ku Bonchan is to shoot against Denmark’s Casper Lauridsen in the third round, as well as Canada, Mexico and Ukraine, represented by Beijing 2008 Olympic champion Viktor Ruban.

Japan’s Takaharu Furukawa, silver medallist at London 2012, faces a meeting with Germany’s Florian Kahllund, the 2014 Archery World Cup finalist.

Germany currently has no invitation to next year’s Olympics after both their men’s and women’s sides lost in the first round of team eliminations.

Chinese Taipei, Ukraine and the United States have a chance to win a single quota spot in the women’s event.

Some places could be decided in the third or fourth round of competition as the only archers remaining in the event are those representing 11 nations without team quotas.

The first eight team quota places were awarded during yesterday’s team elimination, with the quarter-finalists in the men’s and women’s recurve competitions profiting.

The remaining eight individual places will be awarded to the teams with the eight highest-ranked archers still in the individual event that have not already qualified a team.

A secondary Olympic qualification tournament may be required on Friday (July 31) to decide who takes any spots left over as the field is whittled down.

Following the World Championships, teams will have a chance to secure spots at the continental qualifying tournaments and the final qualifier.
