Marius Vizer has said sport is the definition of his life ©YouTubeMarius Vizer, the President of SportAccord and the International Judo Federation, has said sport is the definition of his life.

Speaking to Euronews ahead of this month's SportAccord Convention in Sochi, the Austrian, who was born in Romania, spoke of his journey so far in the sports industry, having started as an athlete, before going on to ultimately lead judo's world governing body since 2007 and SportAccord since 2013.

Vizer is now set to remain as SportAccord's leader as he goes unchallenged into the Presidential elections, which will take place at the World Sport and Business Summit in the Russian city from April 19 to 24.

He explained how he introduced widespread reforms for judo, with the sport going from two major events in four years to 20 events in a year, broadcast in 150 countries, and said he is aiming to work to a similar model of development for SportAccord.

"SportAccord has platforms that deliver services to members," said Vizer, who will be re-elected for a four-year term in office at the SportAccord General Assembly on April 20.

"Services such as integrity, anti-doping, good governance, marketing, media, management, administration.

"We are starting a lot of programmes and platforms for international federations, as well as providing solutions for raising money, generating exposure, more credibility and increasing attractiveness of sports.

"And to challenge the young and the new generations to practice sport."

Vizer recently opened the first regional headquarters of SportAccord in Moscow as part of his efforts to expand the organisation's operations globally.

The new base will work closely with SportAccord's administrative headquarters in the Swiss city of Lausanne, and he said it will help in the exploration of new avenues both in the country and Europe.

He praised Russia, in particular, for its support.

"I consider Russia to be the country which invests the most in sport, mainly in international events which generate benefits for international and national federations and good promotion for the sport," Vizer added.

"The Russians they have good infrastructure in place, good logistics, human potential and always the treat the people and the organisation with respect and humanity.

"That is very important for sport."
