Construction work for the "wave" sculpture is due to begin tomorrow and is part of a wider renovation of the Fishpools roundabout and surrounding area.

The main attraction of the roundabout will be the metal sculpture depicting a water wave which will act as a lasting reminder of the London 2012 canoe slalom events that took place at the nearby Lee Valley White Water Centre.

The wave is the creation of award-winning Hertfordshire artist Rick Kirby, who was commissioned to create something truly special that would stand the test of time.

"The Olympic Games coming to Waltham Cross was monumental and it's important the local people are reminded of that special time in history," Kirby said of his inspiration for the sculpture.

"The wave is a reference to the iconic paintings of Katsushika Hokusai."

It is hoped that if things go according to plan, the construction and renovation will be completed in three weeks.

The cost of the project is in the region of £30,000 ($48,000/€38,000) - £35,000 ($56,250/€44,500) with the funds granted to Broxbourne Council by the London Legacy Development Fund.
