The pedestal, commissioned by the Environment Agency, will stand at Bray Lock, on the River Thames, and will feature a commemorative plaque to mark the role the Agency played in planning the Games.

The monument will be unveiled on Monday (October 22) at 11am.

Matt Carter, waterways operations manager at the Environment Agency, said: "This is a fun way to mark the achievement of all of our Olympians and Paralympians, who did such a fantastic job of making the country proud.

"The pedestal at Bray will stay gold from now on as a fitting tribute to our achievements this summer, and to mark the part the Environment Agency has played in helping to make the Olympic and paralympic Games a success, not just here at Eton Dorney, but across all of the Olympic venues."

Bray Lock is upstream of the world-class rowing venue and Environment Agency staff played a key role in ensuring the river remained open during the Olympic Games.
